New iOS Updates Coming Soon

As an app developer, I get all of the latest iOS updates. They just released the newest version tonight and I’ve got the details for you!

Here are the top highlights from iOS 26 Developer Beta 4 (build 23A5297i, released July 22, 2025):

1. Liquid Glass Design Tweaks 💧

  • Apple dialed up the translucency again, navigation bars in apps like Photos, Music, App Store, and Podcasts are more “glassy” than in Beta 3, striking a new balance for style and legibility.

  • On the Lock Screen, notifications now darken the wallpaper backdrop for better readability.

2. Apple Intelligence Notification Summaries

  • Notification summaries for News & Entertainment apps are back with an AI-powered overview labeled “Summarized by Apple Intelligence”.

  • A new onboarding splash screen lets users choose opt‑in and warns summaries may contain errors.

3. Camera App Refresh

  • The Camera app gets a fresh splash screen explaining the redesign.

  • Home screen icon is simplified, black bezel removed to resemble the ultra-wide camera sensor.

4. CarPlay Enhancements 🚗

  • New CarPlay wallpaper options now match iOS 26 style, with multiple color themes in light and dark modes.

  • Icon appearance settings expanded (light, dark, clear); CarPlay now supports video playback if the car enables it.

5. UI & Settings Tweaks

  • Passcode screen updated wording and prompts under Face ID & Passcode.

  • Passwords app can now fetch site icons and domain names by contacting websites.

  • Weather app gain: can optionally use Significant Locations for more relevant forecasts.

  • Sounds & Haptics: “Late Night Mode” renamed to “Reduce Loud Sounds,” with a clear description.

  • Call Screening gets finer control, options now include “Ask for reason” or “Silence unknown callers”.

  • Wallpaper now dynamic throughout the day, shifting tones based on time.

6. Under-the-hood UI polish & stability

  • General bug fixes, performance enhancements, and smoother animations across Control Center and app transitions.

  • Numerous stability improvements, with Apple ironing out Beta 3’s rough edges.
